Go from Farmhouse to Industrial Modern on a budget

Are you over the farmhouse style? Are you looking for ways to update your space from Farmhouse to something more neutral? If you want to update your trendy farmhouse home, here are 6 helpful tips to make that transition and to achieve a more modern look without breaking the bank!

1- Less is more

Declutter your walls and surfaces. Pick out all of the farmhouse style decor and decide what pieces are most important for you to replace. Remove rustic decor and ANY art with words. Clear all surfaces and choose a few pieces that work best together. This is an easy first step as you will remove any items that even slightly fit the "farmhouse" vibe: Anything with chickens, cows, or cotton has to go!

2- Find a color scheme and stick to it.

Find large pieces that you love such as a rug to help direct your color scheme. Use neutrals and 1-2 accent colors for pops of color. Add color and patterns that coordinate without making the space feel cluttered. Try to highlight 1 or 2 wood tones in your space. Paint is always a great option to refresh furniture without replacing everything! Even if you have multiple design styles being introduced to your updated space, as long as you have a cohesive color scheme then you will achieve your desired updated look.

3-Everything remaining should be intentional and certain items need to make a STATEMENT.

To achieve a luxurious feel, go oversized. Opt for one large piece of art or two medium pieces rather than several small pieces. Large mirrors are also a great option. Opt for a large statement piece such as a large vase or bowl rather than multiple smaller pieces on tables. Keep it simple and use different textures to add dimension around your space: Upholstery, window treatments, rugs, accent pillows, etc.

4- Lighting makes a bigger difference than you may think!

Think of lighting fixtures as sculptures, they should be unique and make a statement. Opt for unique organic shapes that will catch the eye. Always chose metal finishes over wood for a classic look.

5- Add greenery for pops of color!

No matter your color scheme, greenery goes with everything and is a great addition in any home (real or fake). Large plants such as ferns, olive trees, birds of paradise, and snake plants are good options. Choosing vases for these plants is another way to add in different textures without adding clutter.

6-  Reuse old instead of buying new!

  • Paint or stain old furniture

  • Paint over old artwork or the frame

  • Put new covers over old pillows

  • Change out lamp shades

  • Change out fixtures and door/cabinet knobs

  • Spray paint curtain rods
